Made from thin sheets of digitally etched brass – linked together to form geometric globe of sorts – we are enthralled with its splendid science. All tight corners, sharp angles, and precise cut outs, it satisfies our longing for order and beauty. And once illuminated, it is even more captivating. Casting a mass of intricate shadows on its surroundings, it transforms into a sophisticated disco ball of sorts.

Feeling creative? To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Hickory Chair is inviting the world to design a piece of furniture for them, or to reinterpret one of their current designs. The contest ends on Sept. 15 and is open to three categories of entries: General (any participant that is not a professional or a student), Student, or Professional (graphic, furniture, interior or related industry designer). Each category’s grand prize winner will receive $10,000 in custom home furnishings.

The overall concept for the hotel was to incorporate technology and glamour into the various activities and states of being that the traveler encounters during their stay. The public spaces were designed to accent the hotel’s transition from day to night, and to enhance the roles of spectator and performer in the public arena…
