“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” —

- E.B. White, author of Charolotte’s Web

I came across this quote recently which embodies everyday life for me.  As a designer, I constantly struggle with feeling like I am making a difference - both for myself and for others around me.

Haworth brought back its playful Shetland rocking stool - from NeoCon2012 → nytimes.com

PONYING UP -> After a brief release more than a decade ago, Haworth brought back its playful Shetland rocking stool.

Michael Welsh, who designed the revival, said the piece was “meant to be informal, supple and iconic in its shape,” plus you can stow a briefcase underneath it. The stool, which comes in a stationary version as well, will be available in September in a painted finish or a walnut veneer, and will range from $700 for the stool alone to $2,000 with the optional companion covers in wool and leather that evoke horse blankets and saddles.

Floor plans are invaluable in designing a home, so what can you learn from them? → houzz.com

Floor plans serve “as a means to understand buildings and a way to convey ideas to others”. But they are also helpful to describe “the size and scale of spaces, the relationships between spaces and the movement across a house.”

This article on the site “Houzz” reviews some of the attributes of floor plans both as architectural drawings and as visualization tools.
